I finally managed to sort through all the photos we’ve taken since arriving in Florida, and I wanted to share a couple of highlights from our time in Florida before leaving on our trip. We were delayed due to the time it took for the service center to get parts for the RV (first a connector for the black and grey water tanks necessary to dump our sewage, then a propane regulator). While the service center had our home, we took advantage of the opportunity to have some fun.

One day we took our bicycles to Starkey Wilderness Park and rode the bike path through the park to the Suncoast Trail, a 42 mile long path along the Suncoast Highway.  This trail led us to a park neither of us had been to before, Crews Lake Park. If you go to this park on a Saturday, you can catch a train at “Synovus Station”.

Damsel in distress! John, please save me before the train comes!

Oh! Silly me, I can crush the train tracks with my foot.

A couple days before we set out, John’s mom was generous enough to treat us to a day of kayaking on the amazingly beautiful Weeki Watchee River. The kayak rental and launch is just downstream of where the mermaids apparently live. We had a lovely day and were lucky enough to see seven(!) manatees. The poor creatures all had scars on their backs from boat propellers.

Lovely insects such as butterflies and dragonflies love John; this butterfly sat on his head for a few minutes.

4 Thoughts on “More Highlights from Florida

  1. I love these pictures! Who took the picture when you were both in kayaks? That was cool with John diving into the water from the tree. Nice to see a monarch butterfly too. I love the “silly me” comment. You two are a lot of fun.
